CG Motorsport Update
DATE: 03/16/10
Unknown to many, Clone Gaming has a motorsport division headed by Australian leader, samo. They race using Image Space Incorporated's simulation, rFactor. The team is currently competing in a Le Mans style league with 4 different classes of car, LMP1, LMP2, GT1 and GT2. CG Motorsport has been fighting it out in the LMP2 and GT1 categories with samo driving the LMP2 car and f1xation driving the GT1 car. Currently the league has completed three rounds and will move onto round 4 at Bahrain next week.
The first round was at Mid Ohio Sportscar Course, finishing 9th overall and 6th in class in LMP2 after a catastrophic start. The second round taking place at Sebring where the team was forced to retire with suspension failure. The GT1 car has not yet competed to due real life commitments.
The third round took place at Road America and the LMP2 team was confident as samo had raced here on a number of occasions and knew the track well. With a tuned setup and track experience samo would lineup in pole position after a very successful qualifying session with a time 1.5 seconds quicker than the next fastest driver. However due to cold tyres and brakes a few little mistakes on lap 1 put the LMP2 team back to third and then a spin on lap 5 caused some minor aerodynamics damage that would need to be repaired during the first pit stop.
This lengthy first pit stop put CG Motorsport way back to 19th position with 22 laps remaining. The team endured though and had a relatively easy run for the remainder of the race and ended up finishing 4th overall and 4th in class.
